We moved!

Well, we did it!  Thomas and I moved into our first home!  We are loving it so far!  I have unpacked the whole downstairs and our bedroom is almost done.  However, the sewing room is the biggest mess ever!  I still say I am doing pretty good for only living in the house less than a week!  It's a lot easier when you don't have a ton of stuff accumulated yet.  The kitchen was the hardest room since the majority of our wedding gifts went there.

Sunday, my mom went with Thomas and me to return some stuff to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and run some other errands around town.  We ended up getting bedding for our room, all the towels for the house, the bathroom accessories, and some other misc. stuff there.  We found this great bedding that I liked a lot better than the Pottery Barn stuff I was registered for and it was on sale for 40% off!  We were really excited about that because bedding was much further down the priority list but we couldn't pass up the deal!  After BBB, we went to Home Depot and Lowes.  I picked up paint swatches, and we used our giftcards that we got.  We got some super exciting things like a plunger, a mop, and a tool set.  I kid...we did get one thing that excited me A LOT!
A DYSON!  I must be grown up when I get this excited over a vacumn!  I was registered for this at Macys but I didn't think I would get it since it was pricey...I mostly wanted the discount later.  Well, Thomas and I really wanted to go ahead and invest in a good vacumn cleaner since we have a lot of carpeting and a dog that sheds a lot, plus Thomas and I both subscribe to the thought that it is better to buy quality over quantity.  We would rather buy one high-end vacumn cleaner in 5-10 years than numerous mid-range ones.  We went with the Dyson DC25 Animal.  We got this baby home and I couldn't wait to try it out!  I was vacumning at 11 PM Sunday night despite having to go to work the next morning!  haha!  I have to say it really is an awesome vacumn and so far I am really pleased!

Aside from trying to get things unpacked, Tuesday Rooms To Go delivered our furniture!  I am pleased with it, however there were a few things that were messed up when we got it.  They are bringing us a new sofa and new sofa table soon...so the customer service was good.  I was just a little annoyed that now we have to wait around for them to come out and take them and give us new ones.  Our dishwasher is also not working...so I am having to wash everything by hand!  Apparantly we just got a dud and they have to come out and replace the part that is broken.  This isn't really a huge deal, but unfortunately we have to wait until the 12th because the people that fix dishwashers also fix refrigerators and AC...so we are the last priority!  Hopefully they will be able to bump us up a little...they are trying to!

So, Thomas and I are officially in our home and starting to deal with grown-up stuff.  It is really making me realize that I am an adult!  It's exciting and we are really loving our new home!  I will be sure to show some pictures as we get more stuff unpacked and decorated.

The First Task A New Wife Takes On

One of the first tasks I am tackling being a wife is making our house a home  We are so fortunate that we are purchasing and moving into our first home within the next two weeks.  We were able to go to a walk-through of the property yesterday and see how everything came together and we were absolutely thrilled with it!  We have our final walk through tonight and will be moving on Saturday!  I have always been interested in decorating and love spending hours looking at home decor online.  I have been making plans and getting ideas for over a year looking forward to moving out of my mother's house and into my own.  So, this whole adventure is right around the corner.  Problem is....

I'm NOT patient!  Thomas has to keep reminding me that the house wasn't built in a day and making it a home won't happen overnight either.  When we came home from our honeymoon much like other newlyweds, and immediately opened our presents.  We have been very blessed by our family and friends and have received as much from them.  We are very appreciative!  However, when you have two people coming together to form a family and they have NEVER lived on their own and do not own any thing (towels, cleaning supplies, shower curtains, etc.) you have A LOT to buy!  Last night I started making piles in his parents bonus room for the move.  I had keep and return piles for the presents and was making a mental list of things we were going to need.  The plan is that Saturday we will move and Sunday we will make returns and buy everything we absolutely need in order to live.  I have been working on making a list of things from our registry that we didn't get and need, want, and would be nice to have.

This was a rude awakening for me.  I guess I thought we would just go buy everything I wanted after the wedding (minus china and stuff like that that isn't 100% necessary).  I just keep telling myself, "Welcome to Adulthood, Jennifer!"  The list of things we need is probably a lot longer than those who get married at 27-28 and have been living in their own apartment for years.  Not only do we need to buy towels, bedding, etc...we also need food, spices, cleaning supplies, etc. I am not trying to whine about this...it's fine and we are going to get everything we need.  I am just saying that realizing I wasn't getting all of it in one shopping trip was yet another awakening for me that I really am an adult!  We got married young compared to most of society now-a-days and I am starting to actually realize what my mom and my MIL were talking about when they say they didn't have much when they started out.  But honestly I am beyond blessed.  Patti (my MIL) and I were in our new kitchen last night and she said in awe that we were starting out really well, and that they didn't have anything like this when they first got married.  I am not lacking anything I need, and we have been blessed with many of our wants such as this beautiful new home we are moving into.  We are blessed and my cup is overflowing.  I am just really learning that I have to prioritize...that's hard for me!  I want to move in, go to Home Goods and buy everything, then go home and decorate.  BUT, I had to make a spreadsheet (I'm a nerd, I know) and add everything out, and prioritize what I needed.  I actually put my beautiful Pottery Barn bedding as a lesser priority because you know what...I have sheets and I can live with them for a little while.  I guess this is just another way that I am starting to realize I really am an adult.  I just wish I had learned this lesson before I racked up credit card debt in college (Welcome to Adulthood, Jennifer!)

I'm Back...

and I am MARRIED!!!!  The wedding was better than I ever even expected it to be! It was so much fun and Thomas and I were over the moon happy throughout the day (and of course we still are today!).  Family came in from all over the country to celebrate with us and it truly was a fairytale wedding for us.  I have only gotten a sneak peak of the photos from our photographer (Thomas' cousin), so I will save the details for later.  Here is a sneak peak of our BIG day!!!  Credits for the photos go to Sean Azul Photography

Okay, so that was a lot of the pictures!  I will do another post when I get more though!  I am so happy!
