Happy Birthday to Me!

I didn't say anything on Friday, but it was my birthday!  I turned 23!  I had a really happy day that was very special and fun!  I had breakfast from my favorite work day eatery (Wright Square Cafe, it's on the Foodie Tour if you ever come to Savannah!), one of my best work friends took me to lunch, and I met all my friends and family at Myabi for a Japanese Hibachi dinner!  I received so many wonderful gifts from my family and friends including a new Pandora bead (which basically finished off my bracelet!), a new Pandora bracelet to start on my second one, a cake plate in my casual china pattern (Lenox Butlers Pantry), a Vera Bradley purse, and an iPhone.

My brother Jeremy was also able to come visit for a few days, which was very special since he lives in California.  It was a wonderful birthday!

P.S. Prayers today would be wonderful!  Thomas and I have decided to move forward with the purchase of the townhome.  We are going to put in an offer today and move forward with buying it.  We are so excited, and so scared!!!

A Week of Ups and Downs

This has been an overwhelming wonderful week in so many ways!  I feel like life is really falling into place for Thomas and I.  We have so much excitement and so many fantastic things happen to us!  We bought a bunch of furniture after much budget crunching and store comparison.  We are so happy about it and feel like we are so blessed to be able to have beautiful furnishings to put in our home.  We ended up getting a different t.v. console because the other one was too dark.  We also got the sofa table instead of the server because they discontinued the server!  I was sad, but I can use the sofa table as a great place to decorate.  Here are some pictures.

We bought this...Santa Cruz T.V. Console

which turns into this...Santa Cruz Media Center

We plan on buying the pieces to extend the media center later when we save up for it.

We also have some potentially exciting news.  Thomas and I decided to look into buying a house.  We have been going back and forth trying to decide where we were going to live.  We have discussed the possibility of buying a small starter home, but honestly didn't think it would work out for us at this point in time.  We had pretty much ruled out looking at buying and decided to rent when a family friend who is a realtor posted about the same town homes we have been looking at online and driving by for months.  She posted a photo of her billboard that read something to the extent of "Buy a home for the cost of renting."  I felt like this was a God thing, and decided to comment on her post.  She said she would love to show them to us.  I called, we talked, she put me in touch with a bank to look at getting preapproved, and then we got preapproved for the house!  We were stunned!  I mean, we have good credit, and make a good living for our age, but we just figured that we would have to wait a year or two.  We met with the builder last night and looked at the floor plans and houses that are already built.  We were so excited!  They met our needs exactly!  They are beautiful, we would get to choose all the finishes and paint colors, they are selling for about $40,000 less than they were 3 years ago and they are in an up and coming area where we (and our realtor) feel we would make a good amount in resale in the future! We are so excited and are just crossing our fingers everything works out and that we get in them.  You never know when buying a house!  Please add this to your prayer list!  We need as many prayers as we can get!

Thomas' parents are extremely supportive and last night they helped us go over everything and make a budget and talked candidly about money with us.  They used to teach Crown Financial Ministry, and they are going to teach it to us!  We started last night with reading a book about treating your finances the way the Lord wants us to.  Thomas and I are reading the book together and then we will start on the worksheets.  I pray that we make wise financial choices starting out our marriage!  I am very excited to start this process!

Last but not least, the down for the week.  My family has a close friend who lost their father.  My heart is just breaking for them.  I am so sad for Miss Mary who lost her sweet husband and for my friend from high school, Kimmy, who lost her daddy.  I love them so much and just was struck with grief for them to hear the news.  It was a sudden loss because although he had been sick with heart problems, he seemed to be getting better and had recently been discharged from the hospital.  I am just praying for them through this extremely tough time and would really appreciate any prayers you could send out for them.

Happy Friday!  I'm sorry to end on a sad note, but I just wanted to plead for prayers!

Furniture Shopping

Thomas and I went furniture shopping Saturday evening.  It was an eye-opening experience!  I feel like I have looked into a glass ball and seen a glimpse of what life will be like in a few short months.  Seeing as I have dated Thomas since I was 14, I feel like I know him pretty well!  We both would probably agree that we know each other better than we know anyone.  I have heard so many times that when we get married it's going to be so different, and that you will learn a lot about each other.  I have always thought in the back of my mind that we were probably different since we have dated so long though.  Well, when we went furniture shopping, I learned that Thomas and I do not always see eye to eye.  When I think of marriage and the roles, I think of the woman solely decorating the home.  I have never even imagined Thomas would have a care in what furniture we buy!  I can now tell you ladies that Thomas and I do not have the same taste in decor.  Thomas is very drawn to contemporary and modern furniture, while I like traditional.  When Thomas and I started looking online, I realized I was going to have to let go of a little control on this particular item.  Thomas and I went to the stores Saturday afternoon and looked around.  We went to Rooms To Go, Havertys, and Ashley Furniture Homestore to see what we could find.  Overall Rooms To Go was too contemporary for me (with the exception of a few things that you will see later in this post), Haverty's was right up my alley but expensive and Thomas hated 90% of it, and Ashley was so so to both of us.  We ended the night with a bunch of options that we both agreed on and liked.  I wanted furniture that was classic and that would be a good palate for me to decorate with, and Thomas wanted something that was good quality, good price, plenty of storage, and had a nice look to it.  We crunched numbers and looked at all the options and decided on what we are going to buy.  Drumroll please....

Perimeter Sofa

Perimeter Chair

Santa Cruz Living Room Tables

Crosby Wall Unit

Santa Cruz Dining Room Table and 4 Chairs

Santa Cruz Server

The only worry is that the Crosby Wall Unit will be too dark, so we are going back to the store tomorrow to decide 100% on that.  All of this furniture is Rooms To Go.  I was able to find some pieces that met my classic requirement despite the fact that there wasn't a lot in the store that I really liked.  Also the prices at Rooms To Go just couldn't be beat!  We were able to fill our entire house for a pretty good amount of money!  We are so excited that we are actually going to have furniture in our home! :)  We had pictured ourselves eating dinner on bean bag chairs! We are really excited and going to make the final purchase on Tuesday!  Wish us luck!!!

Life

I've just been working and going to school lately.  I have been so busy with everything in life recently, and I just haven't had much to report.  I have tried to make myself be a good blogger, and then when I don't post I feel guilty.  I have just recently decided to let that go.  I love blogging, and I will continue to blog, but it may not be everyday right now...or even every week.  I have to be okay with that because at the end of the day, when I have a mountain of things to do, blogging just sometimes falls to the bottom.  It makes me sad, but hopefully in the next few months, after the wedding and once Thomas and I get settled into our daily lives, I can get a good blogging schedule together.  Right now, I am just going to have to be okay with the sporadic posting, and I hope y'all all don't leave me because of it.

So, lately we have had a good bit of stuff going on.  Thomas got a pretty good tax return and I am thinking I might get a decent one as well based on looking at what I paid in vs. what I made.  We have decided we are going to use our tax money to go buy a living room set.  We found one that is in our budget and looks pretty on Rooms to Go's website, so this weekend we are going to go look at it.  We are also planning to go look in a few more stores to see if we find anything that we really like.  I am excited about the possibility of new furniture!  Right now, we only own a bedroom suite and our family has graciously offered us a dining room table and chair set (2 actually, but we are gonna use my moms).  I am so excited we are getting married right now, and I can't wait for the wedding...but I see how it can be so much easier to wait until you are older to get married.  Thomas and I are not established at all!  We own hardly anything...no silverware, cooking utensils, mops, or brooms...pretty much any household item you could think of, Thomas and I will have to buy in the next 4 months!  It is very expensive, and we are just trying to be as frugal as possible right now to get the items we need.  It is very exciting though!!!!  I am so happy to be going through this adventure with Thomas!  We are going to learn a lot together and I know we are going to have a blast being newlyweds.

Before we go furniture shopping on Saturday afternoon/evening, I am hosting my Mary Kay Debut party!  I am so excited!  Tonight I have to go get snacks and tablecloths, and then I have to go home and practice and get the house together for the party!  It is going to be fun and I hope I get good practice and some bookings for future parties.  I am really hoping within the next 3-6 months, I can get a good customer base together that is filled with people that are not just family and friends. Wish me luck!  I promise to post soon and let you know how the party and everything goes!
