Tip of the Day

I told y'all that I was a little worried that I had ruined the front of my fun zebra dress the other day by scorching it.  Well, after a second opinion, ahem thanks Ashton, it was confirmed that the front piece of the dress was indeed scorched.  Not really all that bad, but if I am going to put that much work into making a dress and then it gets even slightly scorched, you better believe I am going to run up to Hancock's and get some more fabric to cut out a new front piece.   I really didn't want to do this though because my local Hancock is like 30 minutes or so away and I have no time to get over to it.  It really isn't in a convenient part of town for me.  So, I turned to the internet to see if there was any way possible to remove a scorch mark from linen.  Well friends, there IS!  I found through some internet searching that if you take an old (I would say preferrably white) scrap of fabric and put some Hydrogen Peroxide on it, then put it on top of the scorched mark and rub the iron on top of both pieces, it WILL remove it!  You might have to try this a few times, but it worked for me.  The fabric looked as good as new and I was super happy because I saved time and money by not having to go buy more fabric, wash it, cut it, and sew it back up to the point where I was at.  I was able to instead do this little trick and forge ahead on making the cute little pleats on the neckline of the dress!  So, if you ever scorch linen or cotton, try this handy dandy tip.  I found this info here, they have info on how to remove a scorch mark from just about anything...unless it looks like this.  I think you are out of luck then.

What's Jennifer Sewing?

I have really meant to keep these posts going on Mondays, and pop an occassional "What's In Jennifer's Closet?" in there from time to time, but y'all know I have been so busy lately! I know y'all don't want to read about why I don't have time to blog, so I thought if I want to keep my lovely readers, I had better put up a blog post today! :)

I have been doing a ton of sewing lately, but I need to take some pictures to show y'all. My goal for this week is to get this done!!!! I want to show my tutorial for No-Sew baby onesies (which consequently can be sew if you so choose...I did), and some of my recent garments. I keep saying it and keep saying it, but it is time to put my money where my mouth is and post it! It's a laziness thing really! haha! :)

So for today's post I thought I would show y'all what I sewing right now. A fun and funky zebra printed linen sheath dress! I got the fabric at Hancock's like 2 weeks ago, so if you want some you better go get it fast! It was on sale when I got it for about $9.99 a yard and it was going fast! Y'all know how animal prints are really "IN" right now!  I expect to have this done by the weekend!  The pattern is number 8552 and it is one of my Very Easy Vogues that I have in my stash.  I have to say that is really is turning out to be very easy!   Of course I am making it more difficult than it needs to be by getting rid of the interfaced facings and doing a lining that wasn't called for, but really it is linen!  It kinda needs it!  I tried to press it, but I think I *might* have scorched the fabric on on section.  I am going to decide tonight and see if it is something that is messed up and if I need to go get another yard. Cross your fingers that I didn't scorch it and that it fits right!

Wedding Wednesday

I hope y'all like hearing about wedding planning because I am about to have a lot of posts about it!  It is really on the brain right now since I am starting the whole process (FINALLY!!! WOOO HOOO!  A 25 month engagement is much too long!)  I have set up 4 appointments with wedding planners for the upcoming weeks!  Keep your fingers crossed that I feel a good vibe with one of them!  I am currently contemplating either a historic downtown church wedding or an outdoor plantation wedding!  If y'all haven't noticed, a long engagement makes you change your mind a million and one times!  I will keep y'all posted once we decide!
In honor of me trying to get together everything to put my wedding vision into words for them, here is some of my photo inspiration!
The church downtown we might marry in!
The site of our ceremony if we go with the outdoor plantation wedding!
Have a great Wednesday!

Buzz Buzz...Busy Bee Coming Through

I promise I haven't deserted y'all!  Last week and all it's business has followed through to this week.  I have so much going on!  I hope I don't lose any followers this week due to lack of posting!  :)  I promise y'all sometime this week I will have my tutorial on baby onesies up for all to enjoy (the best part is there is NO sewing required so any of y'all who aren't super crafty can do this one!!!!) and some other really fun posts planned!  I have about 20 posts halfway written in my drafts, but I just haven't found the time to actually finish them!

I leave y'all with a question to answer!  What are the most important things to ask a wedding planner in interviews?  I have an interview with one Thursday and I am in the process of setting up appointments with a ton of others!  If you have any tips on picking the right wedding planner or on wedding planning in general, please leave them in the comments section below!

Onesies In Progress

Flowerpot and Butterfly onesies
Sage (the baby's name) and Bow onesies
Cupcake onesie - my favorite!!!
Here is a little sneak peek of the adorable onesies for my sweet niece coming next Tuesday!  I am planning to do a full post when I get them done and possibly a tutorial if any of y'all are interested.  Let me know if you are and I will start working on that post!  I have compiled a lot of tips from internet research on how to make these and they are super easy, fun to make, and have a lot of WOW factor!  Plus, I have found through internet research that 1 baby onesie like one of these costs around $20-30.  I am able to make tons of designs out of one fat quarter of fabric, so many designs can be made from one small cut of fabric (which costs about $1-3) and a pack of 5 onesies at Target is around $9.  I think I am going to start making these for all my prego friends!  I am already planning what shapes I should make for Ashley's shower in a couple months!  The possibilities are endless!

Home Decorating

I told y'all I have home decorating and registering on the brain right now!  I don't think I have ever told y'all I am extremely picky about all things home decor related!  I have been scouring the internet for bedding that I like and I have found nada!  I have looked and looked and looked!  I really want to get my bedding and my color scheme for each of the main rooms (Master BR, Kitchen, Living Room, Bathroom) nailed down so that I can decide what color things I want to register for.  I have loved the blue/brown and green/brown color combos for a long time.  However, I am also thinking that I would like a yellow/blue/corally red color scheme as well.  I had picked out a lovely duvet at Pottery Barn about a year ago that I just adored!  It was the Painterly Paisley set in this lovely yellow shade.  I could really bring in that blue and coral with it and make the room really bright and pretty.  I have thought about it ever since, but decided that since it would likely sit in a bag in the corner of my bedroom for a year or two, it would be silly to pay full price.  I had time to wait for it to go on sale.  I have waited and waited and last week I decided I should see if they had marked it down again.  They had indeed, and they had SOLD OUT!  OH NO!  There goes that room idea!  I had it all planned out and now I was back to the drawing board.  I scoured the internet looking for another bedding set that I liked and as I said before, I found nothing that spoke to me.  My bedroom is my sanctuary and I want it to be just so.  Then I got to thinking that I now have a sewing machine and I have gotten pretty good at sewing.  I have made pillows before and they seem way more complex than a duvet cover and some drapes.  Why not search for a fabric that I like and see if I can make it myself!  Only one little problem...decorating fabrics are quite pricey!  Read $25-50 a yard depending on what you like.  Still, it seems like a good idea.  So, I went searching today during my lunch break and found a few fabrics at Denver Fabrics that I like (all around $20 a yard), then I saw a fabric that made my heart jump a little!  It combined blue, green, and chocolate brown!  One of my favorite color schemes!  It was a great print and 100% cotton, which was a big deal to me.  Then I saw the price!  $6.95 a yard!  You have got to be kidding me!!!!!!!!  I need y'all to tell me what you think.  I am seriously thinking about ordering some of this for our bedroom!  I would make the duvet in the paisley print.  I also am thinking that I might do the drapes or some type of window treatment out of it as well.  I don't think they would entirely be made in that fabric, but incorporate it into the window treatments and the throw pillows.  I also included the giraffe print because I DIE for giraffe and zebra.  This giraffe is by the same company and also $6.95 a yard.  Do y'all think that it could be a cute accent fabric?  Obviously in very small amounts.  I am thinking I could try to find a chair at a thrift shop and maybe do the seat in it (I have re-upholstered before so that is no deal breaker) and then some of the throw pillows could have it in them.  I love the look or animal print and paisley!
Here are some inspiration pictures!  Obviously the wrong colors, but you get the idea.
What do y'all think?  Keep in mind that I can return the fabric within 30 days, so if I buy it and hate the feel of it, it is returnable!  Should I go ahead and buy enough to do some of the decorating I want to do, or should I play it safe and order a swatch?  I am just scared they might sell out!  I need your thoughts and opinions!

A Little Rambling...

I'm sorry I didn't post yesterday, but life got in the way of my little blog!  I have so much going on right now!  Posting might be slow and go this week due to everything I have to get done!  Here is a little sample of what I have on my mind this week!
  • Industrial Organization test Wednesday morning
  • Thomas' Grandpa's 90th birthday Wednesday night...still contemplating skipping Econometrics Wednesday night in order to go.  I am leaning towards skipping since I am very close to him.
  • My brother and SIL are having a baby girl next week!  She is having a C-section Tuesday!
  • I am making the baby some appliqued onesies, which I haven't started.  I MUST get them done this weekend so that my mother can bring them up to them on Tuesday!  Did I mention I have never done this before?  I have to learn how to do this also!  I shouldn't be too hard right?!?
  • Haircut and highlight on Thursday night!  This mop of hair is getting really long!
  • Working on numerous posts that need to be finished and posted!
  • Everyone keeps asking me about what I want for my wedding!  I have had so many people ask me where I am registered so they can go get me a present!  I haven't even thought about it yet!  I am planning a registry in my head at the moment and hopefully sometime in May (or sooner)Thomas and I can go register!  I have got this topic on the brain lately!
  • By the way, have y'all noticed that as soon as people start asking you what you want for your wedding, EVERYONE has an opinion?  It is kinda annoying!  I mentioned to someone at work that I really can't wait to pick out the official china pattern and she proceeded to tell me how stupid it is for me to register for china because she never used hers, she gave it away, yada yada yada.  Then I told someone else that I wanted a KitchenAid Mixer more than anything for my wedding!  I think I want the Robin's Egg Blue color and then that person said they know someone who has that mixer and they hate it because the cake mix or whatever gets stuck in the bottom of the bowl and doesn't mix well.  I know these people only want to help, but really!  I think engagement rings and baby bumps make everyone suddenly get an opinion!  This is topic my prego friend Ashley and I talk about a lot!
  • On the same topic, I can start booking places for my wedding around June!  That is right around the corner!  Can y'all believe it!  I am so excited, but this kinda stresses me out!  I should have spent this past year deciding exactly which photographer, venue, flower, wedding planner, whatever I wanted.  Did I do that?  NO!  It really snuck up on me!  I am now playing catch up!  Get ready for a plethora of wedding posts soon!
  • Planning Ashley's baby shower!  It is no longer at a restaurant since so many people want to attend!  We are having it at work and having finger foods/desserts, which means I need to think up some baby shower games, make a diaper cake, and buy decorations!  This is a lot more work, but it will be very fun!  I want to make this a very special shower for her and I am happy to do it for her!
  • So much more than that on the brain, but I think I will end this for now!
Have a wonderful day!

Easter Outfit

****Wow! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all of your comments on my blog roll. I will add all of y'all to the list! I am so looking forward to reading your blogs and getting to know you through blogging!****

I have been contemplating over the last few weeks what I should wear for Easter. As all of y'all know, I have acquired quite a few cute new Lillys this month, and I have also made a pretty seersucker dress (which I really need to post about, haha!). I have been going back and forth over which dress I wanted to wear! After much deliberation, I have finally decided! I always get so excited about what to wear to Easter service because it is such a special holiday. My family and Thomas' family always go to church together and afterwards we have lunch with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Every year all the "kids", a term I use loosely since the youngest of all of us is 17, have an Easter Egg Hunt on Grandma and Grandpa's property. Instead of candy prizes, it is money! They know what us "kids" like! I always enjoy Easter spent with Thomas' family! I feel extremely fortunate to be marrying into a family that is so rooted in tradition and love for one another. I couldn't ask the Lord for a better future family! Without further ado, here is what I am wearing this Easter!
