Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend was so much fun! I had my two nieces come to stay at my house this weekend. It was a busy weekend with a 4 year old and a 9 year old, but it was extremely fun getting to spend some much needed time with my girls! I have some pictures to show y'all of all the fun we had! I have sprinkled them throughout the post! Let's get to the wrap-up!Friday after work, Thomas and I went out for DATE NIGHT! Fridays are our date night...we are creatures of habit! :) We went out for dinner at Outback and then went to see Shutter Island. We have both been waiting with baited breath for Shutter Island to come out. If you are like us, you will remember Shutter Island was originally supposed to come out in 2009, but was delayed to 2010 for whatever reason. Thomas and I have wanted to see it a lot ever since the first trailer, so the wait was long for us! It was so worth it though! We loved it! It was so good! It was different than I was expecting, and the end was better than I could have imagined! If you like thrillers, you should definitely go see this one! It got two thumbs up in my book! After our date night, the girls were waiting for me with my mom at our house. I went and got them ice cream and hurried home to them! Saturday, Olivia (9 year old) and I went out to run errands and I took her by some fun stores including our local Vera Bradley supplier and Pawparazzi which happened to be having a animal adoption! Olivia had a ton of fun petting the animals since she is a big time animal lover! She watches Animal Planet non-stop and knows just about everything about training dogs! Afterwards, my mom, the girls, and myself all loaded up in the car to go to do some fun activities! Olivia and I went to see a movie that she really wanted to see called Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lighting Thief. It was a good movie! I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did! I was expected a children's film, but it was fun for all ages. However, there were a few things in it that I was not so sure Olivia should have seen such as a scene where the Percy Jackson and his group of people are in Las Vegas and are given these flowers to eat that take over all of the senses like a psychotropic drug...um yeah, not so great kid material right there. There were a few other small things that I wasn't so happy about, but overall it was good. It was geared more towards the 13 and up crowd in my opinion. I also took Olivia to the fabric store with me and she helped me pick out some new fabric for a skirt. She was very excited about my sewing adventures! She and I went to Ulta as well and I told her to pick out a nail polish color for pedicures later that night. While all this was going on, my mom took Autumn (4 year old) to a fun play area for small children! She had a blast as well!
That night, Olivia and I did pedicures on each other and watched The Babysitters Club movie! I remember that movie from when I was a kid. She picked it out to watch and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip down memory lane! Of course, we also had our fill of girl talk! We had a sleepover in Aunt Jennie's room and stayed up late talking about all of her classmates at school! Olivia is at such a fun age! She is getting more and more girly everyday and more mature. She is simply a delight!
We also had an ice cream party on Saturday night! It was a lot of fun! I snapped a lot of pictures of that, but unfortunately they were the only ones I got of the whole weekend! It was too jam packed with activities to take pictures!
Sunday, the girls had to go home. My mom took them to my brother and sister-in-law while I stayed home and had a fun night with Thomas! Taco Bell and a marathon of Pawn Stars...it is such a romantic life I lead! :) I had a great weekend spending time with my favorite and only nieces! They are so sweet and well-behaved. Not to mention, they love their aunt and I love them so much! I got my fill of hugs and kisses this weekend! I can't wait for my sister-in-law to have baby girl number 3 in April! Being an Aunt is the BEST!

Here are the rules:
1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award and insert a link to their blog.
2. Pass on the award to 15 other bloggers who you think are GREAT!
3. Contact the other bloggers and let them know they have been chosen for this award.
4. Say 6 things that you are a

MASTER AT....
1. Shopping, particularly bargain shopping! I know how to get a sale on just about anything! :)
2. Eating Chips and French Onion Dip! I could LIVE on this one food!
3. Being an Economist...haha, I wish! I guess I should revise this to say I am a master at working my booty off to get a little piece of paper that says I have a BA in Economics
4. Painting my nails! No, really, I am very good at giving myself a pedicure. People always think I had them done, but I did them myself 90% of the time. It is all in a good quality polish and high shine top coat, and of course a steady hand and long brush strokes. I am quite good at it!
5. Texting/Tweeting and Driving, sadly...I am breaking myself of this habit though. I really don't do it much anymore, just at stoplights.
6. Teaching myself things. This sounds weird, but what I mean is I learn better through making mistakes and trying things out myself than I do with a teacher explaining things to me. If I watch someone make something, or have a visual I can usually figure it out. I reupholstered our dining room chairs when I was like 15 from watching HGTV and I taught myself how to make jewelry based off a necklace I bought. I am now teaching myself how to sew and I find that looking at pictures of what others make on PatternReview.com and in blogs teaches me more than if I paid for a class. It is a good skill to have!

Adelaide at Sweet, Sassy, Southern, and Classy passed this tag along to me as well. She is one of my fave bloggers and a true friend! Thanks Adelaide!

Here are the rules:
1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award and insert a link to their blog.
2. Pass on the award to 15 other bloggers who you think are great!
3. Contact the other bloggers and let them know they have been chosen for this award.
4. Say 7 things about yourself.

1. I love to cook!
2. I am a very detail-oriented person
3. I love getting cute personalized mail like Thank You cards. Most recently, I got a valentine from Dawn at Lydia & Pugs and it really made my day! All of my cards are on a board in my room across from my bed where I can see them anytime I need a smile!
4. I have been taking these special Women's Vitamins with Biotin in them and they are making my hair grow like a weed! It is getting extremely long and I just got it cut 3 weeks ago! If you want long hair or nails, take biotin!
5. My favorite color growing up was BLUE! I wouldn't wear bows or flowers on my clothes, and I was convinced I was grown and NOT a baby! I would play games like "working mom" where I was a CEO (like I knew what that was) and I would have to take my baby dolls to my mom to babysit while I went to the office. I was a trip! Don't let it fool you though, I was a prissy child who wouldn't play outside much and just wanted to play barbies and American Girl dolls.
6. My top 4 bands of all time are as follows in no particular order: The Beatles, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, and Simon and Garfunkal. I am an old soul!
7. I also like to listen to new music like Christian and Country. I am clueless when it comes to Pop or Rap though. When I was in high school, I never knew the songs that everyone was singing and I would have to pretend to know it for fear of looking dumb. Oh high school and the things we thought were important....

I am going to pass the last two tags to any of my followers that would like to play along!

Thanks everyone! I am sorry it took me so long to get this posted and for the lack of posts lately! I have been extremely busy at work, at school, and at home! In fact, I don't even think I added links to this post and for that you must forgive me. I have literally been working on this post for 3 days now, but every time I sit down to write it I get interrupted! I have so many saved drafts for posts right now piling up, but no time to finish writing them! I am going to try to remedy that this weekend! I finished my pink seersucker dress and it is PERFECT! Not one issue with the whole thing! I am going to post that ASAP! I look forward to talking with all of y'all very soon! We have so much to catch up on! Have a great Friday!

Snow is Savannah!

You know you have been a bad blogger when your own best friend starts asking if you are ever going to update your blog! Last week, I just couldn't get it together to put a blog post up. Uploading pictures and writing a entire blog post just sounded like so much work! Ha! Not to worry, I haven't deserted y'all! I am back with many fun posts this week. :)

We have to put a hold on shopping, sewing, and beauty posts for a second though...because it SNOWED in Savannah!!!!! Can y'all believe it?!?! I sure couldn't! Last Friday, Savannah was all abuzz with news that we were going to have a snowfall that night. The weatherman said that some areas could get as much as 3 inches! That is a lot for us Southerners! Y'all that deal with snow all the time can laugh now, but Savannah shut it down! My office let everyone leave early, and so did many other businesses. People postponed their plans, stocked up on groceries, and went home to build fires and bundle up for the "Blizzard" in Savannah! Friday night, Thomas and I went out for Valentines and hung out at my house for a while afterwards. When I went to take him home, there was sleet coming down! We were so giddy with excitement! I can't believe I didn't wreck since I was paying more attention to the consistency of the slush on my windshield to determine if it was snow yet than I was to the road! Around 8:45, the snow started coming down in Savannah! It wasn't any big deal at my house truthfully. I was also too warm in the house to actually go outside and touch it or take pictures in it. However, I did stick my head out of the door and take a couple pictures of the snow accumulation on our cars and our neighbor's cars. The snow pretty much melted as soon as it touched the ground at my house. It looked like a thin layer of ice on the ground more than anything. However, many people in the surrounding area had enough snow to build snowmen and play in it! An hour north of Savannah in Statesboro, I hear that they had a nice fluffy layer of snow! My brother and sister-in-law who live in Macon had a good bit as well! My 4 year old neice Autumn was quite sad the next day when it was melting because she wanted to build an igloo! It was quite an exciting and memorable weekend in the Coastal Empire!

A Little Rambling...

I meant to do "What's In Jennifer's Closet?" yesterday, but I wasn't feeling it. I just couldn't think of one thing that I really wanted to feature. I think I have the winter blahs. I want to wear spring clothes NOW! Haha!

I am working on a sewing post about all the things I have made to be posted ASAP! I just need to actually put the pictures from my computer with it. I find uploading pictures into blogger such a chore and I have been putting it off. Be looking for that fun post soon!

I have been super busy both at work and school this week! I have a test in Econometrics on Wednesday and I am going to be studying a lot between today and tomorrow. Doesn't the name of that class just sound daunting! I think so! If I don't post until Thursday, don't be mad at me!

I am going to leave you with a picture of the dress I am currently working on! I am making this in a pink seersucker fabric! See, I told y'all I had Spring Fever!

Crazy Cashier at Wal-greens

This is just too good not to share with y'all! There is this lady that works the checkout at our local Wal-greens. She is probably in her mid-60s and she is extremely friendly. TOO FRIENDLY! Going through the check-out is a major ordeal because she has to comment on every single item you buy and ask you if you like it, if it is something she should buy, and so on. She also gets in your personal business. For example, the day I had my toe surgery I went to Wal-greens to get gauze and stuff I needed. I was limping around in there with a flip flop on with my toe all bandaged. Obviously, any one would wonder what I had done. Well, the cashier lady was no exception. Ashton was with me and she happened to be checking out already when I limped up to the checkout. The lady says to Ashton, "Oooh, your friend looks like a cripple." Nothing else, just that. So Ashton told her that I had an ingrown toenail removed and at this point I was standing there too. She starts asking me all the normal questions about the procedure, but then she starts asking me if I think she should get it done because she has one and it hurts her sometimes. It took me like 10 minutes of talking with this lady to get out of there. She just kept saying how scared she was to have it done and that she probably should get it done. Okay, lady, not to be mean but I don't know you and I just had surgery and I really don't want to talk to you right now about this. I want to go home and put my foot up and relax, not to mention take my pain pills! She just turned the conversation into me advising her whether she should get the surgery done. I am not her doctor, I have never seen her toe, nor do I want to, so I really can't tell her either way. It was bizarre.

Well, I am starting to think she is the only cashier they have because every time I go there she is there and she is equally as annoying. A few weeks ago, Thomas and I ran in to get something and while we were checking out she kept pushing some gum they had on sale on us. The whole time she kept talking about how it was on sale for .79 instead of $1.25 or something. She said it was such a good deal that people would be crazy to pass that up. She was just going on and on about it like they were giving away a free BMW. I kept telling her I wasn't interested and she just kept going on about it until I finally politely told her that we don't chew gum. We do chew gum, but I thought it would stop the sales pitch. She wasn't even ringing us up because she was too busy peddling gum. She finally checked us out and we left thinking she was such a nutcase.

This morning I realized that I needed a sketchpad for Art Appreciation at 10 am for a graded assignment we were going to have today. I completely forgot to pick one up prior and was in a tight bind this morning to get one. I skipped the gym and got ready early and left with a list of places in my mind that might carry one. The first stop due to closeness was Wal-greens. I ran in, found a sketch pad thank goodness, grabbed some breakfast and a coke and ran to the checkout trying to hurry so I wouldn't be late to school. Crazy cashier lady was there again today. She first commented on the size of the Coke I bought.

C: "Oh, you got the big one huh."
Me: "Yep" (thinking that it is only .10 more for a 1 liter bottle and I might as well buy it for that price, but of course if I said that she would be peddling that stinkin' coke the rest of the day...so I kept quiet)
C: "Oh, WOW, you got special K bars. I need to get me some of those. Are they good? Would I like them?" while holding the box and NOT ringing them up for about 3 minutes while examining the back.
Me: "Yep" (Obviously they are good if I am buying them!)
C: "Oh, they are strawberry. Why did you get strawberry? The chocolate ones are really good." she finally rang them up.
Me: "I like the strawberry" (So therefore she knows special K bars are good then right?)
C: "If you like chocolate you should get some of these candy bars that are on sale over here."
Me: "I can't eat chocolate."
C: "I don't really eat chocolate either too much. I just eat a little bit. Well, you would love these candy bars that are on sale for such and such. They taste like kit-kats but they aren't kit-kats!!!"
Me: "No thank you, I don't eat chocolate."

Then she hands me my receipt and I pick up the bag, but she is convinced I am going to drop the bag. She stops me and makes me carry BOTH handles before I can leave.

Is that not the most annoying thing you have ever heard! I know she is just trying to be friendly, but I don't have an hour to chat every time I go to Wal-greens. I try to be polite, but not overly friendly because it would start a conversation with her. I am seriously thinking that I am not going to shop at this particular Wal-greens anymore because this lady is just so annoying! Haha! I hope this made y'all laugh on this Friday! Have a good weekend!

Land's End Spring Line

Yesterday, I got the new Land's End Spring catalog in the mail. I just love the look they went with for the line. It is so light airy and romantic! It is just what I think of when I think of springtime. I really don't need anything out of the catalog, but there are a few items that really caught my eye! I am starting to get spring fever with all the new spring lines coming out! I have all the items I am going to make on my sewing machine lined up and they are all spring and summer garments! I can't wait! Here are some of my faves from the new catalog!
I seem to see a lot of ruffles in these pictures! I sure do love ruffles! I might just have to get that cardigan to celebrate the return of spring! I hope everyone is having a great week!

Almost Wordless Wednesday

I have seen a lot of bloggers do this and thought I would as well. Wednesdays are a very busy day for me (gym, school, work, back to school) so I often run out of time for a post. Here is a picture of my favorite guys! Enjoy!
